Been on a villainess kick with manga recently, and as a consequence, been reading many of the original light novels they've been adapted from。 This is probably the most well known of those series right now as it's been adapted into an anime as well, which I just don't have time for these days。I think this one may just work a bit better in the quicker manga format than LN。 I will have to see how much extra story content we end up getting going forward (I felt like nearly 99% of the first novel vo Been on a villainess kick with manga recently, and as a consequence, been reading many of the original light novels they've been adapted from。 This is probably the most well known of those series right now as it's been adapted into an anime as well, which I just don't have time for these days。I think this one may just work a bit better in the quicker manga format than LN。 I will have to see how much extra story content we end up getting going forward (I felt like nearly 99% of the first novel volume was adapted into the manga)。 The novel is good and all, but it's much easier to accept Katarina's airheadedness when you don't have so much face palm worthy internal monologue to wade through。 I mean, it's supposed to be like that, but the comedy seems to just land better when we aren't dwelling overly long on it。 Similar to Heretical which I finished the first volume of the other day, we do get a contrasting point of view for most scenes, however, I think it actually works better in this case cuz the contrasting view simply isn't as long as the sections were in the other series。 All in all, this is a fun series, and I'll stick with it。 It's a JNC series, which means I have plenty of subscription credits stocked to dump into the ten or so volumes already out。 。。。more

It's unreadable gibberish。I simply cannot understand why anyone would read what is essentially a badly translated (or perhaps just badly written) book that reads like a comic。I think I am just too old and, somewhere along the line, missed out on any understanding of Japanese YA books。This is not a book, it's just words strung together to make little or no sense。1 Star。 It's unreadable gibberish。I simply cannot understand why anyone would read what is essentially a badly translated (or perhaps just badly written) book that reads like a comic。I think I am just too old and, somewhere along the line, missed out on any understanding of Japanese YA books。This is not a book, it's just words strung together to make little or no sense。1 Star。 。。。more

It's great but I might switch the manga instead of the light novel。 It's great but I might switch the manga instead of the light novel。 。。。more

A fun story that while a little awkwardly written at times was just what I needed。

Really more of a 3。5 but rounded up to a 4。 I was already familiar with Bakarina having seen both seasons of the anime and read several of the manga adaptations of this series when I decided to jump into the light novels。 This first book is really just an introduction to the various characters in Bakarina's reverse harem with not much other plot to speak of。 Funny and very silly。 Really more of a 3。5 but rounded up to a 4。 I was already familiar with Bakarina having seen both seasons of the anime and read several of the manga adaptations of this series when I decided to jump into the light novels。 This first book is really just an introduction to the various characters in Bakarina's reverse harem with not much other plot to speak of。 Funny and very silly。 。。。more

If you like otome games this is a really good read。 I really enjoyed this light novel, very lighthearted and cute and one of the better isekai stories out there。 It's a harem romance, with one of the most dense main heroines out there。 The novel uses the jargon of otome games and other visual novels to quickly explain what is happening plot wise。 However since things like red flag and bad end are self explanatory, I don't really think that it's so alienating to new readers。The only downside I se If you like otome games this is a really good read。 I really enjoyed this light novel, very lighthearted and cute and one of the better isekai stories out there。 It's a harem romance, with one of the most dense main heroines out there。 The novel uses the jargon of otome games and other visual novels to quickly explain what is happening plot wise。 However since things like red flag and bad end are self explanatory, I don't really think that it's so alienating to new readers。The only downside I seen was the habit of each chapter switching POV to the romancable characters, which rehashed the plot of the chapter without adding too much。 I would say it would have been better if the POV would have either switched in the chapter, or the new POVs dropped altogether。 Overall, I really enjoyed it, it's my first Japanese light novella and I wasn't disappointed。 Its a cute romance story, with very likable characters。 。。。more

Hilarious, middle-grade-to-early-high-school, isekai, light romance。A little repetitive and good bit of narrative summary in the secondary character POV scenes, but they nonetheless kept my interest, in part, because their tropes pulled on my heartstrings。 In addition, the excellent narrative voice imitates the noblesse and yet maintains readability。 Katerina's good-natured, resolute character and clever ideas pulled me in。Sometime soon I'll buy the next one。 Hilarious, middle-grade-to-early-high-school, isekai, light romance。A little repetitive and good bit of narrative summary in the secondary character POV scenes, but they nonetheless kept my interest, in part, because their tropes pulled on my heartstrings。 In addition, the excellent narrative voice imitates the noblesse and yet maintains readability。 Katerina's good-natured, resolute character and clever ideas pulled me in。Sometime soon I'll buy the next one。 。。。more

I'm not usually a fan of the dense main character, but this book is definitely an exception。 Katarina, completely engrossed in her own world, is a riot to read。 I also love how each of the chapter in this book shows her side and the other main person in that chapters point of view。 Such a fun read。 I'm not usually a fan of the dense main character, but this book is definitely an exception。 Katarina, completely engrossed in her own world, is a riot to read。 I also love how each of the chapter in this book shows her side and the other main person in that chapters point of view。 Such a fun read。 。。。more

A charming and humorous story about a female MC who reincarnated into the world of an otome game。 I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would。

Tried out my first light novel since I adored the anime so much! A lot of the writing style/humor leans heavily on anime tropes, but 4 stars bc the plot and characters are just so dang charming

I like how oblivious Katarina is to her admirers feelings, and misunderstands a bunch of the events, I especially enjoy the fact that she even has female love interest。What’s also so great about it is that the more I see here with them, the more I want her to have a harem ending or end up with Sophia or Maria (she hasn’t shown yet)

Aside from the ironically genre-appropriate typos (Western otome adaptations are infamous for being riddled with typos; in a sad way I guess it fits for an otome-game parody light novel to have the same flaw) this book was everything I hoped for and more!I loved the illustrations。 I took some serious pointers as a professional; it is my ambition to write and illustrate fantasy books and this style is much like what I'd like to do。The way each chapter was written from Katarina's point of view, an Aside from the ironically genre-appropriate typos (Western otome adaptations are infamous for being riddled with typos; in a sad way I guess it fits for an otome-game parody light novel to have the same flaw) this book was everything I hoped for and more!I loved the illustrations。 I took some serious pointers as a professional; it is my ambition to write and illustrate fantasy books and this style is much like what I'd like to do。The way each chapter was written from Katarina's point of view, and then retold from the view of whoever was the main support character in that chapter was a fun and unique experience。For those who, like me, watched the anime first, this book only covers about halfway through the first season, right up to when Katarina is ready to enter the magic academy。 The story is just as hilarious and charming as in the anime。 It reads easy and quick, so I'm really excited to move on to the next volume! 。。。more

This was a fun light novel。 My father recommended it, and when I saw the library had it, I gave it a shot。 I enjoy the humor, and it's fun to see how one person starts changing everyone with her kindness and enthusiasm (and is absolutely clueless about how they all feel about her)。 I immediately picked up the second volume, so I'll keep going for now。 This was a fun light novel。 My father recommended it, and when I saw the library had it, I gave it a shot。 I enjoy the humor, and it's fun to see how one person starts changing everyone with her kindness and enthusiasm (and is absolutely clueless about how they all feel about her)。 I immediately picked up the second volume, so I'll keep going for now。 。。。more

Wholly addictive。 Will be reading the sequel volumes for sure! Only thing that let this down for me was the homophobic sentiment from the main character throughout the book that for example referred to them not being gay but 'normal' and the perception that a gay man would lead someone 'astray', among other things (despite homosexuality seemingly being somewhat accepted in the isekai world as a whole)。 Wholly addictive。 Will be reading the sequel volumes for sure! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I discovered this light novel after hearing about the anime adaptation。 While reading it, I found Katarina very funny and love how she tries her best to strategize ways to avoid her doom flags。 Not only does the light novel go through her narrative, it also goes through other character's narratives: Jeord Stuart, Keith Claes, Mary Hunt, Alan Staurt, Sofia and Nicol Ascart, and Anne Shelley。 All of the characters have their own tragic and blossoming life to them。 I can't wait to read more。 I discovered this light novel after hearing about the anime adaptation。 While reading it, I found Katarina very funny and love how she tries her best to strategize ways to avoid her doom flags。 Not only does the light novel go through her narrative, it also goes through other character's narratives: Jeord Stuart, Keith Claes, Mary Hunt, Alan Staurt, Sofia and Nicol Ascart, and Anne Shelley。 All of the characters have their own tragic and blossoming life to them。 I can't wait to read more。 。。。more

Reading the manga of this is what got me into isekai light novels, so OF COURSE I had to read the light novel the manga was based off of and it's so good! What can I say, except that this is one of the best villainess stories? Katharina is one of those silly, dense harem protagonists, but in a good way。 She's adorable!Apart from the main character, the other characters are also funny as hell, which makes this book a joy to read。 There is a manga adaptation as well as an anime。 I read and watch them all! This amused me but it's not for people who can't stand stupid main characters - she is beyond stupid and always gets saved in the very end so there are no real consequences。 If you dislike that sort of dynamic and can't look beyond it, don't try this。 This is a very simple read but it was a charming one for me, although not perfect。I'll list the good parts first and then what didn't work for me。Fun charactersI doubt I would have been able to like this without the characters and interactions betw This amused me but it's not for people who can't stand stupid main characters - she is beyond stupid and always gets saved in the very end so there are no real consequences。 If you dislike that sort of dynamic and can't look beyond it, don't try this。 This is a very simple read but it was a charming one for me, although not perfect。I'll list the good parts first and then what didn't work for me。Fun charactersI doubt I would have been able to like this without the characters and interactions between them, so that was the main reason I kept reading。 Her parents and the boys/girls she meets all have their own distinct personalities, problems and goals。 It was fun to watch them interact and develop as the story continued。Feel-good vibe & very sillyThe main character is actually kind, means well and at the same time tries her best to avoid (highly unlikely) bad ends for herself from happening in her own。。。。 very very dumb way。 Her stupidity is the entire joke of the book, gets clearly acknowledged by every other character and she gets herself into constant trouble this way。 I liked how proactive she was and was amused by the ridiculous situations caused by her actions or ideas。 It's basically silly and doesn't take itself seriously。Formula basedThe setup of each chapter made things predictable: she meets a troubled new character, does something stupid but positive they don't expect, they grow attached to her and then she fixes their problem。 After that they join her harem。Horrible use of viewpoint switchI skipped some parts of this book after realising this, but after reading a chapter in her point of view。。。 you will read the entire exact same thing in the viewpoint of the character she was with。 It's entirely unnecessary because it doesn't give you new information or new insights into the character's thoughts (it's very clear what they think from her pov)。 Skip the viewpoints after each chapter and you won't miss a thing。The only viewpoint switch which was worthwhile was the one at the very end, because it gave you new information and tells you a short story about her personal maid's life and motivation (it was lovely)。 。。。more
